Meeting on March 15 to appoint new election commissioners

New Delhi: On Friday 8 March, Election Commissioner Arun Goyal resigned from his post. After his resignation, now the posts of two election commissioners are vacant. Now a meeting can be held on March 15 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appointment to these posts. Sources said that the panel headed by the Prime Minister will meet on March 15 at 6 pm to fill the vacant posts of election commissioners.

Arun Goyal resigned on March 8

Let us tell you that a few days before the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, Election Commissioner Arun Goyal resigned on March 8. Earlier, an Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey had retired in February. Only Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is left in the three-member commission. Arun Goyal has stated that the reason behind his resignation was personal but it is being said that there were differences between him and the Chief Election Commissioner.

Retired IAS officer of Punjab cadre

It is noteworthy that Arun Goyal is a retired IAS officer of Punjab cadre of 1985 batch. He had taken VRS from the post of Secretary (Heavy Industries) on 18 November 2022. A day later he was made the Election Commissioner. Goyal was recently visiting various states to take stock of election preparations. However, the tour was abandoned midway citing health reasons. Even when Goyal was made the Election Commissioner, there was a lot of controversy and a petition was filed in the Supreme Court against his appointment.
