New Delhi: Milind Deora, who left Congress and joined Shinde group, has made very shocking revelations. In a special conversation with INDIA TV, he told that the Congress high command had issued a decree to oppose all the policies of the Narendra Modi government. He also said that positive politics is no longer happening in Congress. He said that earlier the Congress Party was a nationalist party, but now the Congress is doing politics of dividing the country. Congress party may stoop to garner votes. He said that the Congress party was now suffocating. Apart from this, Milind Deora expressed his views on many matters and also made many serious allegations against Congress.
Why did Milind resign?
Responding about his resignation, Milind Deora said that it was not easy for me to take such decisions. I have been loyal to the Congress Party. I always tried to complete the work given by the party. But for the last few years, I have seen that the ideology of the party and what is the ideology of the party today, the approach of the party is very different. There is a lot of difference in Congress from 2004 to today in 2024. He said that when Atal ji was the PM, Congress played a good role of opposition, but today negative politics is being done and personal attacks are being made.
Central schemes were made targets
Deora said that when our country’s successful Prime Minister Modi proposes something, there is opposition to it. Politics of protest has been going on continuously for the last few years. For example, when PM Modi launched Make in India, it was a strategic decision. Due to this, not only employment increases but it also impacts China. At that time I remember I had given some suggestion that instead of protesting, it would have been better if we had said that Make India should be like this. In the last 10 years, I only attacked policies, attacked ideology, but I never targeted anyone personally. He said that Congress’s policy is ‘attack for attack’. It is common to protest during elections, but during the 5 years after the elections, at least do some positive work, work on how to take the country forward.
Congress party is dividing the country
Earlier Congress was a nationalist party, but today it is dividing the country into North India and South India. Talking about caste census. The problem of Congress is to what extent they can stoop to get votes for the party and I am not interested in this kind of politics. Leave aside interest, I am not able to do any such thing. That’s why I don’t come on TV because I can’t give negative things, I will only give positive suggestions. If it comes on TV I will have to attack. If the ruling party gives any suggestion in the interest of Mumbai or the country, then I will have to attack it. There are many leaders like me who want to work. Those who have come into politics so that they can make positive contribution to this country.
Leaders with positive thoughts are decreasing in Congress.
Milind Deora said that the space in the Congress party for leaders with positive thoughts is gradually decreasing. This is why all of us are suffocating the most. For this reason some people left the party and joined other parties. Some people left politics, some joined NGOs. The reason for this is that Congress does not want to improve itself. This was a big decision for me. This is how a 55 year old relationship ended. Despite all the difficulties, I was hoping against hope that the party would introspect. I said these things publicly in the party after the 2014 and 2019 elections, I also privately told the party that if we want to improve ourselves, if we want to bring positive change, then we all should introspect. But my words were seen as a protest as if I had given a wrong suggestion.
Congress shows no interest in introspection
Regarding Congress, he said that I am wishing all the best to the Congress leaders, my only message is that there should be a positive opposition in our country. I have got an opportunity to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Modi. It is a matter of great pride for a city like Mumbai that not a single terrorist attack has taken place in this city in the last 10 years. Whereas earlier there were always terrorist attacks. The reason for this is the central government and the state government. When I talked about resigning, a leader sent me a message saying, ‘You could have chosen a better day to resign’. Our family gave 55 years to the party. I tried very hard to reform the party, to introspect, but I do not think there is any interest in introspection in the Congress party.
Congress needs to do small things
Regarding Rahul Gandhi’s silence on Milind Deora’s resignation, he said that when a party leader is disappointed, he is suffocating, when he wants to take tough decisions, then the CEO, Malik or President of any organization should help him. The person should be called, sit with him and talk about what is his problem, what is his opinion, what is his expectation? Saying you should have chosen another day is one of the reasons I left the party. How leaders and workers should be connected to the party, how people should be attracted, how the hands of common people should be strengthened, the Congress Party needs to do a lot of work in this area.
Congress used leaders like us
Regarding the conversation with Rahul-Priyanka, Milind Deora said that I cannot say this in public. Five years ago in 2019, I was made the President of Mumbai Congress. At that time I myself was contesting the elections but after the elections I was told to resign. Whereas I had no role in that election nor did I have any role in the selection of the candidate. I was not given any responsibility for 5 years. Whenever any small responsibility was given, I used to complete it. People like me, who are loyal to the party, want to fight for the party, stood with the party in its most difficult decade, the Congress party used leaders like us correctly.
Congress culture is wrong
Raising questions on the culture of Congress, he said that there is a wrong culture in Congress that if someone wants to go, someone is dissatisfied, someone is angry then you can go. There should be a debate culture in the party that this is my opinion, this is your opinion. This mechanism has not yet been established in the party. The party should be democratic. I would request my friends present in Congress that if they make the party democratic then India will definitely become positive. There are many issues due to which I was disappointed, but in the end when Thackeray Sena said that Congress will have to start from zero, then no big leader of the Congress center condemned this statement of Thackeray Sena. We all know what is the condition of Thackeray Sena today. Thackeray has neither an election symbol, nor an MLA, nor an MP.
The family gave a lot to Congress
He said that the Congress party is lost today. He has no idea what we have to do, how to do it, whether the ideology matches or not. I want to accept that the Congress Party has given us a lot, but my family has also given a lot to the Congress Party. He said that I have been out of Parliament for 10 years. After going to Parliament, I am not greedy for a house, I am not greedy for a car, but I want to work for the public. Everyone has expectation, aspiration, desire that if the party strengthens their hand then they can serve the public.
