There are 103 active cases of monkey fever in Karnataka. Two deaths have been reported so far, one each in Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts.
What are the symptoms of monkey fever?
The Karnataka government has held talks with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for effective vaccination and officials are hopeful of vaccination soon. Awareness programs are also being run in the areas where the disease has been detected. Monkey fever is a tick-borne viral hemorrhagic disease that can be fatal to humans and other primates. Symptoms of KFD begin suddenly with chills, fever, and headache. Severe muscle pain accompanied by vomiting, gastrointestinal symptoms and bleeding problems may occur three to four days after the initial symptoms. (With IANS inputs)
