New Delhi: Many Muslim organizations across the country have issued a statement after the implementation of CAA. Through this statement, all the organizations have condemned the implementation of this law. Along with this, a press release has also been issued. The press release issued said that ‘We are issuing this joint press statement to express our unified stand against the discriminatory legislation that undermines the basic principles of equality and justice. We strongly condemn the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 just before the announcement of general elections.

endangers the social fabric

It further reads that ‘This Act introduces provisions that harm the principles of equality and secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution. Article 14 of the Indian Constitution embodies the general principles of equality before the law and prohibits undue discrimination between persons on the basis of religion. The Act avoids mentioning that the Act violates the fundamental right to equality and secularism guaranteed by the Indian Constitution by providing selective citizenship to Muslims on the basis of religious affiliation; Thus the principle of equal treatment under law is being weakened. “This discriminatory law threatens the social fabric of the country, destroying the fundamental principles of inclusivity and diversity.”

Time chosen for implementation questionable

The press release reads that ‘The approval of the Citizenship Amendment Bill by the Indian Parliament created an uproar across the country and led to protests by Muslims and other sections of society, who felt an immediate responsibility to protect the Constitution of India. The timing chosen for the implementation of the Act is also suspicious and reflects a clear political motive to create religious divisions in the society to serve narrow-minded political interests. We believe that citizenship should be granted on the basis of principles of equality irrespective of religion, caste or creed. The provisions of the Act directly contradict these principles and threaten the secular fabric of our nation. We urge the government to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 and uphold the values of inclusivity and equality enshrined in the Indian Constitution.’

These organizations issued statements

In this, Jamiat Ulema Hind President Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani, Jamaat Islami Hind President Syed Sadatullah Hussaini, Jamiat Ahle Hadith Hind President Maulana Asghar Imam Mehdi Salafi and former Delhi Minority Commission Chairman Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan and people from many other organizations. Also participated.
