National Safety Day 2024: National Safety Day is celebrated every year on 4th March in India. The purpose of celebrating this day is to spread awareness about safety in various areas and reduce accidents. Many programs are organized on this day and people are made aware to stay safe. Let us know what is the importance of National Security Day and what is the theme of this year.

When did National Security Day start?

On 4 March 1996, the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India, established the National Security Council as a self-financing non-governing body. In this sequence, the National Security Council was established. National Security Day was declared to commemorate the establishment of the National Security Council. Since 1972, March 4 is celebrated every year as National Security Day. This year the theme of the day is- “Focus on Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence.”

What is the importance of National Security Day?

The National Safety Day campaign aims to help industries and other organizations promote safety, good health and well-being and move towards achieving zero harm status for the organization. For this, the National Security Council of India has instituted National Security Awards which are distributed every year. Let us know the main objectives of this day:

  • Taking the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) movement to different parts of the country.
  • To achieve participation of key players at various levels in various industrial sectors.
  • To promote the use of participatory approach by employers by involving their employees in SHE activities.
  • To promote need-based activities, self-compliance with statutory requirements and development of professional SHE management systems at work sites.
  • Voluntary SHE movement to cover areas not covered statutorily so far.
  • To remind employers, employees and other concerned people of their responsibility in making the workplace safe.
