PM Modi unveiled the grand statue of Lachit Borphukan, know what is special – India TV Hindi

Jorhat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a 125-foot tall statue of ‘Ahom commander’ Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat, Assam. The Prime Minister unveiled the ‘Statue of Valour’ at the Lachit Borphukan Maidam Development Project at Holongapar near Tok. Modi, who reached Jorhat from Arunachal Pradesh by helicopter, was wearing traditional dress and turban. He also performed a ritual of the Ahom community to unveil the statue. Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma also accompanied the Prime Minister in this program.

Who was Lachit Borphukan?

Let us tell you that the height of this statue built by Ram Vanji Sutar is 84 feet and it has been installed on a 41 feet platform. Seen this way, the total height of the structure is 125 feet. Former President Ramnath Kovind had laid the foundation stone of this statue in February 2022. Lachit Borphukan was a great general of the Ahom kingdom (1228–1826). He is best known for his leadership in the ‘Battle of Saraighat’ of 1671 in which he defeated the efforts of the powerful Mughal army led by Raja Ram Singh I to regain Assam.

PM rides elephant in Kaziranga

Earlier on Saturday morning, PM Modi took an elephant ride and enjoyed a jeep safari in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam. According to information given by an official, Prime Minister Modi spent 2 hours in the garden during his first visit to the UNESCO declared world heritage site. During this, Modi interacted with members of ‘Van Durga’, a team of women forest guards leading conservation efforts, mahouts and forest officials. Modi wrote on ‘X’, ‘Kaziranga is known for rhinos, but there are also a large number of elephants and many other species here.’
