Kolkata/Agra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the country’s first underwater metro in West Bengal and Agra Metro in UP on Wednesday. PM Modi is scheduled to address a rally in Barasat in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Wednesday. Before this, he will inaugurate the country’s first underwater metro section between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade of Kolkata. PM Modi has reached Kolkata on Tuesday evening and is staying at Raj Bhavan. On Wednesday morning, he will inaugurate the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of the East-West Metro Corridor of Kolkata Metro.

The first transport tunnel to be built under the river

The Howrah Maidan-Esplanade metro section has the first transport tunnel to be built under any river in India. It passes under the Hooghly River whose eastern and western banks are bordered by the cities of Kolkata and Howrah respectively. It added that Howrah metro station is also the deepest metro station in India. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate Kavi Subhash-Hemant Mukhopadhyay and Taratala-Majerhat metro section. Along with this he will also inaugurate other projects. This also includes Agra Metro of UP.

In the afternoon he will go to Barasat to address a public rally. State BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said the “harassed women” of Sandesh Khalr would be present at the rally venue. There were demonstrations in Sandeshkhali over alleged sexual exploitation of women by Trinamool Congress leaders. He said, “It is not yet known whether the victims of Sandeshkhali will meet the Prime Minister or not.” Last week, state BJP president Sukant Majumdar had said that if the “abused women” expressed their desire to meet the Prime Minister, the party would facilitate the meeting. The Prime Minister’s rally will be held two days before International Women’s Day.

PM Modi addressed two rallies in West Bengal last week, one in Arambag in Hooghly district and the other in Krishnanagar in Nadia district. He had strongly attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government over “atrocities on women” in Sandeshkhali. He had said that the entire country is angry over the issue and called on the people to ensure his party’s defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Agra Metro inaugurated

PM Modi will inaugurate Agra Metro through digital medium on Wednesday while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will participate in the program and flag off the train. Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has completed preparations for this. UPMRC Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Panchanan Mishra said that the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Agra Metro through digital medium from Kolkata.

He said that for this, a program will be organized at Taj Mahal underground station in Agra, in which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will flag off the train. The train will run from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar Metro Station. Its distance is six kilometers and there will be six stations from departure to destination. The program will be organized at 10 am, in which public representatives, social, political people and school children will participate. People will be able to travel in metro trains by taking tickets from March 7. The travel time in the train has been fixed from 6 am to 10 pm. (input language)
