There are 42 cases registered against Sheikh Shahjahan, which include land grab, rape of women, grabbing property of common people, but the Bengal Police has told the court that Shahjahan has been booked in the cases of attack on the ED team on January 5. Has been arrested. Interestingly, the police claimed to have arrested Sheikh Shahjahan from Meenakhan in North 24 Parganas, just 30 kilometers away from Sandeshkhali. As soon as the news of Sheikh Shahjahan’s arrest reached Sandeshkhali, the people there celebrated on Thursday. In Sandeshkhali, women applied Abir-Gulal to each other, blew conch and danced with thali. These women said that it is true that Sheikh Shahjahan has just been arrested, he has not been punished but the hope of justice has arisen. Now they will get freedom from his terror and oppression. Many women said that the Central Government should make such arrangements so that Sheikh Shahjahan can never come out of jail.

When Shah Jahan was presented in the Basirhat court, he was walking ahead with full pomp and show, waving his hands and showing the victory sign, and the officers of the Bengal Police were following him. In the remand copy presented by the police in the court, it was told that Sheikh Shahjahan has admitted that he had organized the attack on the ED team on January 5, the goods that were looted from the ED team and the weapons with which the attack was carried out. He has hidden in other states, he has to be recovered, Sheikh Shahjahan’s associates involved in the attack on the ED team have to be arrested, hence he should be given police custody. After this the court sent Sheikh Shahjahan to police custody for 10 days. But the surprising thing is that after Shahjahan’s arrest, even before he could be produced in the court, Shahjahan’s lawyers reached the Calcutta High Court and filed a bail application.
The lawyer requested the court for an early hearing, but Chief Justice T.S. Shivajnanam clearly said that Sheikh Shahjahan is not a small or big criminal, there are 42 serious cases against him like rape, land grab, assault and attack on the government team, he remained absconding for 56 days, did not appear even on the orders of the court. What happened and you want that he should be granted bail immediately after his arrest, his application should be heard immediately, this is not possible. The Chief Justice said that the court has no sympathy for a criminal like Sheikh Shahjahan. The Chief Justice told Shahjahan’s lawyer to let him remain in police custody for a few days, there was no need for an immediate hearing. In the evening, Trinamool Congress suspended Shahjahan Sheikh from the party for 6 years. Shahjahan Shaikh is the party convenor and Zilla Parishad member in Sandeshkhali assembly constituency. It is clear that after defending Shahjahan for two months, Mamata Banerjee has now understood that he can become a political burden for the party, hence the party now wants to get rid of him.
