Big update on Sandeshkhali violence.
The issue of alleged sexual exploitation and violence against women is hot in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. After a rebuke from the Calcutta High Court, the state police on Thursday finally arrested Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali violence. Let us tell you that the court itself has taken cognizance of the allegations of sexual atrocities on women and grabbing of tribal land in Sandeshkhali. At the same time, it is now believed that the investigation into the allegations of violence in Sandeshkhali can also be handed over to CBI. Calcutta High Court has agreed to hear this demand.
Hearing will be held on Monday
A PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court to hand over the investigation into the allegations of misbehavior with women in Sandeshkhali to CBI or SIT. A division bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagananam said the PIL will be heard along with the suo motu motion on Monday. The bench has also directed the petitioner to send notice to other parties in the case. The PIL has also requested the formation of a committee of three retired High Court judges to investigate the matter.
Sheikh on 10 days police remand
Shahjahan Sheikh was arrested on Thursday from a house in Minakhan, about 30 km from Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district. Sheikh was hiding in a house with some companions. After arrest he was produced in Basirhat court. The court has sent him on police remand for 10 days.
Trinamool expelled
After the arrest, Trinamool Congress has taken major action against Shahjahan Sheikh. The party has suspended him for 6 years. Let us tell you that ED was looking for Shahjahan for many days in the ration scam, but he was absconding. Recently, on January 5, when an ED team had gone to raid his house, his supporters attacked the team. Many people were injured in this attack. Since then Shahjahan was absconding. Exploiting Shaikh, TMC leader Derek O’Brien said that some parties only speak but TMC takes action along with speaking. (input language)
