School building collapsed before classes started in Bengaluru, children narrowly escaped

A major accident was averted in Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru. The building of a nursery school run by the Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) here collapsed even before the classes could begin on Monday. 90 children study in this English medium nursery school located on Cooks Road near Shivajinagar area. Every day 70-80 nursery children come to school and if the building had collapsed during school hours, it could have been a major accident.

Police said that officials have started removing debris with JCB machines. Local people cornered the officials for running a nursery school in a dilapidated building and said that it posed a serious threat to the children. Congress MLA from Shivajinagar Rizwan Arshad, reacting to the incident, said that the authorities have already identified old buildings in the constituency. Three school buildings will be constructed by combining the one that collapsed. A tender has already been issued, and a new building will be built soon.

Case of feeding egg to student

In another news, a few days ago, a case of forcing a Brahmin student to eat egg during mid-day meal in a government school in Karnataka came to light. The girl’s father had filed a complaint with the education department against the school headmaster and assistant teacher. After preliminary investigation, the administration admitted to serving eggs in the mid-day meal, but denied allegations of forcing any student to eat it.
