Alliance between BJP and PMK.
BJP is trying its best to gain power at the Center for the third time by winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. In this sequence, BJP has announced alliance with Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) in Tamil Nadu. PMK’s coming together with BJP is being considered as a blow for AIADMK which was in NDA. The big thing is that PMK has given elder brother status to BJP in Tamil Nadu. After this alliance, there may be a huge increase in the vote percentage of NDA in Tamil Nadu. Let us tell you that before this BJP has also formed an alliance with Tamil Nadu Congress, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK). Apart from this, actor R Sarath Kumar has also talked about merging his party AISMK with BJP.
seat sharing formula
An agreement has also been reached between BJP and Pattali Makkal Katchi i.e. PMK regarding seat sharing. Will contest elections on 10 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai and PMK President have approved the seat sharing formula on Tuesday, March 19. Earlier on March 18, both the parties had announced an alliance. It is reported that PMK founder Ramdas will announce his candidates on Wednesday, March 20.
What is the strength of PMK?
PMK is a party dominated by the Vanniyar community and has significant influence in the northern districts of the state such as Vellore, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Thiruvalluvar etc. Let us tell you that in the last Tamil Nadu assembly elections, PMK had won 5 seats. At the same time, the party had also secured fourth position in the state with 3.8 percent votes. In 2014, PMK had contested the Lok Sabha elections with BJP. Party candidate Anbumani Ramdas won from Dharmapuri Lok Sabha seat.
