Shashi Tharoor received France’s highest civilian honour, said – I am very grateful – India TV Hindi

New Delhi : Congress MP and former UN diplomat Shashi Tharoor has been awarded France’s highest civilian honour, ‘Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur’. Tharoor was honored with the honor by French Senate President Gerard Larcher at an event. The French government had announced to give this award to Tharoor in August 2022 but he was given this award on Tuesday. Tharoor has thanked France for this honour.

Praise for talent and personality

The French Embassy in India said in a statement that Shashi Tharoor has been given this honor for his tireless efforts to deepen India-France relations, commitment to international peace and cooperation and as a long-time friend of France. In this statement, Shashi Tharoor’s talent and personality were praised. According to the statement, whether he has been a diplomat in the United Nations or a politician in India or as a writer, he has done excellent work.

Tharoor expressed gratitude for the honor

Shashi Tharoor expressed his gratitude after receiving this honour. He said, as someone who admires the French people, their language and their culture, and especially their literature and cinema, I am grateful to have been awarded your country’s highest civilian honour.

Worked in many positions in the United Nations

Tharoor has also held the charge of Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Human Resource Development. He has also served on key parliamentary standing committees, including Foreign Affairs, Communications and Information Technology. Tharoor has written several books, fiction and non-fiction, some of which have been translated into French. Diplomat-turned-politician Tharoor served in several positions in the United Nations. He was also appointed Director of Communications and Special Projects and Executive Assistant to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
