New Delhi: Yesterday, the Sports Ministry suspended WFI i.e. Wrestling Federation of India till further orders, for which the reason has now been given by the Sports Ministry. Let us inform you that the Indian Wrestling Federation elections were held recently, in this election Sanjay Singh, close to Brij Bhushan Singh, had won by a huge margin. Due to which Bajrang Punia had returned his Padma Bhushan award, whereas Sakshi Malik had announced her retirement. While suspending WFI, the Sports Ministry said that the newly elected President of WFI did not follow the WFI Constitution.

hasty announcement

The Sports Ministry further said that the newly elected federation had “hastily announced” the holding of the Under-15 and Under-20 national competitions “without giving adequate notice to the wrestlers to prepare”. For this reason we had to take this decision. Let us inform you that the WFI elections were held on December 21, in which Sanjay Singh, a loyalist of former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, and his panel won the elections by a huge margin.

WFI did not follow the constitution

A sports ministry official further said, “The new panel has not followed the WFI constitution. We have not abolished the federation but have just suspended it till further orders. They just need to follow proper procedure and rules.” ” The Sports Ministry source further explained the reasons for the suspension. Sources said, “Newly elected WFI President Sanjay Kumar Singh, on the same day he was elected President i.e. December 21, 2023, announced that the Under-15 and Under-20 national competitions for wrestling will be held at Nandini Nagar, Gonda (U.P. ) will be in.

Announcement without adequate notice to the wrestlers

The source further said, “This announcement has been made in haste, without adequate notice to the wrestlers who are to participate in the said national competitions and without adhering to the provisions of the WFI Constitution. Clause 3 of the Preamble of the WFI Constitution Under (E), the objective of the WFI is, inter alia, to make arrangements for holding Senior, Junior and Sub Junior National Championships in accordance with the UWW Rules at venues selected by the Executive Committee.”
