Srinagar Lok Sabha Elections 2024: There are five parliamentary seats in the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Also, the assembly seats of Srinagar include Kangan, Ganderbal, Hazratbal, Jadibal, Idgah, Khanyar, Habba Kadal, Amira Kadal, Sonawar, Batmaloo, Chadoora, Budgam, Beerwah, Khan Sahib and Charari Sharif areas. This constituency is a general general seat and is not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (JKPDP) and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) are the major political parties in this constituency. JKNC leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah has won elections from Srinagar constituency four times in 1980, 2009, 2017 and 2019.

Farooq Abdullah had won in 2019

In 2019, there were a total of 1294671 voters in Srinagar parliamentary constituency. The total number of valid votes was 186832. Jammu and Kashmir National Conference candidate Farooq Abdullah won and became MP from this seat. He got a total of 106750 votes. People’s Democratic Party candidate Agha Syed Mohsin stood second with a total of 36700 votes. He lost by 70050 votes. Due to the security situation in the Valley, only 13% voting took place in the Srinagar seat in May 2019. On the other hand, Udhampur witnessed 66% voting due to better law and order situation in Jammu region. Not a single vote was cast at 70 polling stations in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat due to fear of violence.

Tariq Ahmed won in 2014

JKPDP candidate Tariq Hameed Karra had won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He received 1,57,923 votes with 50.58% vote share. JKNC leader Farooq Abdullah received 1,15,643 votes (37.04%) and was the runner-up. Karra defeated Abdullah by a margin of 42,280 votes. The total number of valid votes cast in this constituency was 3,12,212. Independent candidate Agha Syed Mohsin stood third with 16,050 votes (5.14%) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Faiyaz Ahmed Bhat got 4,467 votes (1.43%).
