Kalpana Chawla was born in Karnal, Haryana
Kalpana Chawla was born on 17 March 1962 in Karnal, Haryana. His mother’s name was Sanjayoti Chavta and father’s name was Banarasi Lal Chavta. Kalpana was smart in reading and writing since childhood. Always came on top in her class. Her parents desired that their daughter become a teacher. But who knew that one day their daughter would see the earth, but from thousands of miles above, i.e. from space. Kalpana had made up her mind to enter the world of space science in her childhood itself.
Started work for NASA in 1988
When Kalpana completed her graduation, she went to America for further studies. According to reports, in the year 1984, he obtained a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from America. After this, in the year 1988, he also obtained PhD degree. The year 1988 was the same time when Kalpana started working for NASA, the world’s number 1 space agency. Due to his hard work, he was selected for the space mission in the year 1994. That means they had to travel into space.
Traveling to space not once but twice
The most special thing in all this was that Kalpana Chawal was the woman who traveled to space not once but twice. Very few people get such an opportunity. In the year 1997, he was selected for space flight for the first time. His first flight lasted from 19 November to 5 December. After this, in the year 2003, she again went to space. During this time, he flew to space for the second time on the Columbia Shuttle. This campaign, which lasted for 16 days, was to end on 1 February. But during this time an accident happened. Actually, the vehicle by which Kalpana had gone to space crashed while returning to Earth. Due to this, a total of 6 scientists including Kalpana Chawla died.
