New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard the petition challenging the premature release of former Bihar MP Anand Mohan Singh. During the hearing, the court asked Bahubali leader Anand Mohan Singh to immediately surrender his passport. A bench headed by Justice Surya Kant also said that Anand Mohan Singh should report to the local police station every fortnight. Let us tell you that the petition was filed by slain IAS officer G. Krishnaiah’s wife had filed.

The court said, ‘Will not give any further chance’

“Respondent No. 4 (Anand Mohan Singh) is directed to surrender his passport at the local police station and shall mark his presence at the said police station every fortnight,” a bench headed by Justice Surya Kant ordered. Justice K.V. in the bench Vishwanathan was also included. Saying that it would not give any further opportunity, the bench asked the central government to file its affidavit within a week, if necessary. Senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, appearing for the widow of the slain bureaucrat, opposed the Centre’s request for additional time of four weeks.

Next hearing of the case will be on 27th February

Luthra said a notice was issued to the Central government in May last year and a copy of the petition was also given to the office of the Attorney General of India. The Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing of the case on February 27. Let us tell you that after amendment in Bihar Jail Rules, Anand Mohan Singh was released from Saharsa Jail. The petition, filed by the widow of the slain IAS officer, has alleged that the Bihar government amended the Bihar Jail Manual of 2012 with retrospective effect to ensure that Anand Mohan Singh gets the benefit of remission.

IAS Krishnaiah was murdered in 1994

At the same time, the Bihar government has defended the release of Anand Mohan by saying that the benefit of the revised immunity policy has been extended to other cases also and the amendment has removed discrimination on the basis of the status of the victim. Let us tell you that in the year 1994, the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj Krishnaiah was beaten to death by the mob. At that time, the gangster was trying to overtake the funeral procession of Chhotan Shukla in his car. The mob was reportedly instigated by Anand Mohan Singh. (IANS)
