The entire nation is shocked by the news of alleged sexual exploitation and violence of women in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. Various opposition parties including BJP and Congress are cornering Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress in this matter. There have been several clashes between BJP workers and the police regarding entry into Sandeshkhali. However, on the other hand, the Supreme Court has refused to consider a PIL requesting a court-monitored investigation into the violence in Sandeshkhali.

Privileges Committee notice also banned

West Bengal BJP president and MP Sukanta Majumdar had written a letter to Parliament’s Privileges Committee alleging breach of privilege over the ill-treatment, cruelty and grievous hurt inflicted on him by security personnel in the Trinamool Congress-ruled state. On his complaint, the committee had issued notices to West Bengal Chief Secretary Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Kumar, North 24 Parganas District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police and others to appear before the Privilege Committee. However, the Supreme Court stayed the notice and scheduled the hearing of the case after four weeks.

Mamta is trying to suppress the voice of women – NCW

National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma on Monday accused the West Bengal government of suppressing the voice of women in Sandeshkhali. A delegation led by Rekha Sharma visited violence affected Sandeshkhali. Rekha said that her visit was to instill confidence among the women of the violence-affected area so that many of them come out and start speaking their mind. Rekha Sharma alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government is trying to suppress the voices of women so that the truth cannot come out.
