Ranchi: Even after about 18 hours of resignation of Hemant Soren from the post of Chief Minister of Jharkhand, there is suspense regarding the new government. Champai Soren, the new leader of the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance legislative party, had reached the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday night and staked claim to form the government, but the Raj Bhavan has not yet taken any decision on this. Amidst the situation of political chaos, preparations are underway to shift the alliance MLAs to Hyderabad or Bengaluru.
40 MLAs have been staying in Ranchi’s Circuit House since Wednesday night.
About 40 MLAs of the ruling coalition have been staying in the Circuit House in Ranchi since Wednesday night. He has been told that all the MLAs will remain together with the formation of the new government. There is talk that till the invitation is received for the formation of the new government, they will be shifted to some resort or safe place in Congress ruled Andhra Pradesh or Karnataka. It is being told that a chartered plane has been hired for their shifting, but due to the dense fog in Ranchi since morning, the plane has not yet reached Birsa Munda Airport here. As soon as the plane arrived, the MLAs boarded buses and reached the airport and from there would leave for Hyderabad or Bengaluru.
Four-five senior MLAs of the alliance, including Champai Soren, the new leader of the legislature party, will remain in Ranchi, so that preparations can be made for the swearing-in of the new government immediately as soon as the invitation is received from the Raj Bhavan.
What is the magic number to form government?
The letter that Champai Soren has submitted to the Governor claiming to form the government has the signatures of 43 MLAs. The support of four other MLAs i.e. a total of 47 has been claimed. The four MLAs whose signatures are not in the letter are currently outside the state. The magic number to form government in the state is 41. Champai Soren has said that he is waiting for a call from Raj Bhavan. There is also a possibility that President’s rule may be imposed for a short period until a new government is formed in the state.
