ED raids Pranav Jewellers.
Trichy:The Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a case under PMLA against Pranav Jewelers following an FIR registered by Trichy’s Economic Offenses Wing investigating wing. In this FIR, it is alleged that Pranav Jewelers got the public to invest about Rs 100 crore in a Ponzi scheme (gold scheme) by promising huge returns. But later Pranav Jewelers went back on its promise and closed all the showrooms in Tamil Nadu overnight. Pranav Jewelers had big showrooms in cities like Chennai, Erode, Nagercoil, Madurai, Kumbakonam and Puducherry where people had invested Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1 crore in this gold scheme, but later everyone was cheated.
Actor Prakash Raj may be interrogated
Famous actor Prakash Raj, who was in controversy for his objectionable remarks and earlier statements on Chandrayaan 3, was the brand ambassador of Pranab Jewellers. He has been the face of the advertisement of this jewelers company. But as soon as Pranav Jewelers’ actions were revealed, he maintained silence. According to sources, now actor Prakash Raj is also on the radar of the investigating agency. ED may soon summon him in this case and call him for questioning.
Scam worth Rs 100 crores
The people of Pranav Jewelers invested Rs 100 crore collected from the public through the gold scheme through several shell companies, information about which has come into the hands of ED. According to ED, during the investigation it was found that Pranav Jewelers and its associated people diverted the fraudulently obtained money to another shell company, after which raids were conducted on the premises of Pranav Jewelers on Wednesday. According to ED sources, during the search operation under PMLA at the famous Pranav Jewelers of Trichy, Tamil Nadu, many such documents were found which gave information about suspicious transactions worth about Rs 23 lakh 70 thousand. Not only this, ED has also seized 11 kg 60 grams of gold jewelery during the search.
