Shashi Tharoor’s tweet

‘Lakhs of people are facing continuous delay’

“I don’t need an esoteric thesaurus to respond to Union Minister Scindia’s selective rebuttal to my tweet yesterday,” Tharoor said on ‘X’ on Thursday. On January 14 and 15 alone, flights of nearly 80,000 passengers were cancelled, while lakhs of people are suffering from continuous delays. He said that the maintenance work of the runway is important in view of security, but at Delhi airport ‘ The repair work of ‘CAT-3B’ runway was started in September 2023.

Why was the maintenance work of the runway not started earlier?

Tharoor questioned why this maintenance work was not started earlier, if it had been done then this work would have been completed before winter. He termed it a failure of the ministry. On Scindia’s contention that the crane was being used for another important project – construction of the Dwarka Expressway, Tharoor said, “Wow, your ministry’s attention has finally been drawn to the importance of the crane on the runway.” Why did your government wait for almost two weeks to take a decision on the crane obstructing the runway? “Despite the issue of SOP violation by the crane being brought to our notice on January 5, no action was taken or announced until you tweeted this decision on January 17.”

There is a huge shortage of pilots-Tharoor

The Congress MP claimed that no matter how many ineffective show cause notices the DGCA issues, the reality is the acute shortage of pilots, frequent flight changes and continued suffering for Indian passengers. He said, “Due to the shortage of CAT-3 trained pilots, 50 flights were diverted over three days on December 29, 2023.” Quoting a media report, Tharoor said, “During the BJP government. Thousands of crores of rupees have been wasted on the failed ‘Udaan’ scheme. After seven years, only 225 (about 47 per cent) of the 493 subsidized routes are operational. It (the government) is also not considering those 403 other routes which were allotted but could not start operations.”

‘In 10 years you have been able to add only 20 airports’

He alleged that the claim of doubling the number of airports is one of your most frequently repeated fabrications. The Congress leader said, “The annual report of the Airports Authority of India during the year 2014 shows that India already had 125 airports. In 10 years you have been able to add only 20 airports. In comparison, from 2004 to 2014, the UPA government added 35 airports.” Tharoor said, ”Dear Scindia, it is regrettable that after switching sides, you have adopted the Modi government’s neglectful attitude towards the people. As Rahul Gandhi has said during the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, it is clear that the suffering of the people is not the suffering of this government.
