Jajpur: A court in the district has sentenced 17 people to life imprisonment. A case was registered for burning the couple after accusing them of witchcraft. The court found everyone guilty in this case and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each. Let us tell you that this is not a new case of murder in the name of witchcraft. Even before this, many people have been murdered in the name of witchcraft. This incident had put humanity to shame.

Actually, Shaila Balmuj and Sambri Balmuj lived in Jajpur district of Odisha. It is being told that on the evening of 07 July 2020, many people from Kalinganagar area entered his house. During this time both the people were sleeping in their house. The villagers who entered the house said that the couple had practiced witchcraft. During this time the villagers were angry and set fire to Shaila and Sambri’s house on the basis of mere suspicion without any proof, accusing them of witchcraft. Both of them burnt to death in the house due to the fire set in the house by the villagers. After this the police registered the case and started investigation.
Life imprisonment along with fine
The police caught all the accused in this case and presented them in the court. In this case, after hearing the court, all the accused villagers were found guilty. After this, Jajpur Road Additional District and Sessions Judge Hrishikesh Acharya, while giving his verdict on Thursday, sentenced 17 culprits to life imprisonment. Along with this, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on all the culprits. Giving information, government lawyer Rajat Kumar Raut said that the court gave its verdict on the basis of testimony of 20 witnesses and other evidence.
