Thiruvananthapuram: Trouble arose in Nilambur, which falls under Wayanad parliamentary constituency of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, when local leftist independent MLA P.V. Anwar inaugurated a road which Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to inaugurate on Wednesday. P.V. Anwar represents Nilambur assembly constituency in Malappuram district.

What did the MLA say?

The local Congress leader claims that the road was built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and it was to be inaugurated by local MP Rahul Gandhi. This is clearly mentioned in the circular of the Central Government. But, Anwar said the road was approved based on their request and it is a program jointly undertaken by the state and the Centre. “Here Congress leaders gave wrong information to Rahul Gandhi about the inauguration and hence this issue came to light,” Anwar said.

What Anwar did was right – Pinarayi Vijayan

Speaking on the matter, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that any project which is done using state funds or a joint program of the state and the Centre, it is the state government that takes the decision. Vijayan indirectly agreed, saying that what Anwar did was right. I am not aware of this particular project and except one project using PMLADS funds, all other programs are inaugurated by the state.

Incidentally, Rahul Gandhi is on a three-day tour of his constituency from Wednesday. He has inaugurated some projects in his constituency which is spread over the three districts of Wayanad, Malappuram and Kozhikode. (Input- IANS)
