CM Himanta Biswa gave statement regarding NRC.
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given a big statement regarding NRC. He said on Tuesday that if anyone who did not apply for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) gets citizenship, he would be the first to resign. Let us tell you that his comment has come at a time when the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) was implemented on Monday. After the implementation of CAA, the central government is being criticized by the opposition parties.
‘I am the son of Assam’
Speaking after an event in Sivasagar, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I am the son of Assam and if even a single person who did not apply for NRC gets citizenship, I will be the first person to resign.” Protestors claim that lakhs of people will enter the state if CAA is implemented. “If this happens, I will be the first to protest,” he said. The Chief Minister said there was nothing new about the CAA as it had been implemented earlier and “now is the time to apply on the portal.” ‘ Sarma said that “the data on the portal will make it clear whether the claims of those opposing the Act are factually correct or not.”
What is the matter of CAA?
Let us tell you that yesterday the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 was implemented, under which non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014 – people of Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities. Will be allowed to be granted Indian citizenship. Since the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, security forces have been deployed across the country. However, after the implementation of CAA across the country, people welcomed it wholeheartedly.
