There will be no respite from cold wave, fog alert in many states including Delhi

According to the Meteorological Department, severe cold wave conditions prevailed in many parts of Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, North-West Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Temperatures were below normal (-1.6 degrees Celsius to -3 degrees Celsius) at many places in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Karnataka, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh. . Temperatures in Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and other areas of the country remained close to normal. In view of the dense fog on Wednesday, Orange alert has been issued in Delhi and Red alert in Haryana.

Cold-day conditions will persist in some parts of Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. IMD has predicted that dense to very dense fog is likely at some places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi on Wednesday, while dense fog is also likely at some places in Bihar and Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh on January 17. There will be fog along with cold in isolated areas in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.

Dense fog is likely to occur in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand on January 18, with cold wave expected at isolated places in Rajasthan.

There is a possibility of dense fog in some areas of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and isolated areas of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand on January 19 and 20.

The Meteorological Department estimates that the minimum temperature in northwest India is likely to gradually increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next four to five days. Minimum temperatures over eastern India are expected to rise by 3-4 degrees Celsius during the same period.

Flights and trains affected by cold

Airport officials reported delays in around 30 flights departing from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, while 17 flights were canceled due to adverse weather conditions.

As a result of low visibility due to fog, a total of 30 Delhi-bound trains were delayed.

Schools closed in many states due to cold

An official order of the District Magistrate has announced the closure of all schools in Patna for students up to class 8 till Saturday, January 20, due to the prevailing cold weather conditions in the Bihar capital. For classes 9th to 12th, regular sessions will be held as per schedule from 9 am to 3:30 pm, with no academic activities allowed after 3:30 pm. Issued by the Basic Education Officer of the district

According to an official order, all schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar will remain closed for students up to class 8 till Tuesday, January 16. On Sunday, the Punjab government announced the closure of primary schools till January 21.
