Protest against lowering of Hanuman flag in Karnataka

There is a Ram temple also known as Rang Mandir in Keregodu village of Mandya district. For the last many years, there has been a 108 feet high pillar in front of the temple on which the Hanuman flag flutters. But last Sunday, the district administration officials reached the pillar outside the temple to remove the Hanuman flag from that pillar. The people of the village became angry with this action of the administration and reached there in large numbers to protest against it. The administration lathi-charged the people to disperse the angry crowd and then removed the Hanuman flag from the pillar and hoisted the tricolor there. Members of Hindu organizations including BJP and JDS also came to the ground and protested against this action of the administration.

Opposition started demonstration

The people of the village are very angry with this action of the district administration. People of Koregodu village marched from the village to the collector office to express their displeasure. This march was led by former BJP MLA Pratim Gowda. Not only this, BJP also protested against this incident in different areas of the state.

What did the administration say in the matter?

In this case, the district administration says that the place where the pillar is built is government land. The administration had given NOC to the Panchayat to build the pillar there with certain conditions. An important condition in these conditions was that no religious or political flag would be hoisted here. Only the tricolor or the state flag can be hoisted at this place.

Officials further said, ‘We have the letter and undertaking of the Panchayat accepting all these conditions. Let us tell you that on January 22, on the day of consecration of Ramlala’s idol, Hanuman flag was hoisted there but no one objected. On January 26, the Panchayat hoisted the tricolor here and took it down in the evening. Some people objected after seeing the Hanuman flag here on January 27, after which this action has been taken.

Villagers accused MLA

In this matter, the villagers believe that the Hanuman flag has been lowered only on the instructions of local MLA Ravi Ganiga, who belongs to the Congress party.

Let us tell you that in view of the seriousness of the matter, instructions were given by the Chief Minister of the state to hoist the flag there using police force.
