Devotees seen taking bath in Ganga on Makar Sankranti

Haridwar: The festival of Uttarayan of Sun i.e. Makar Sankranti is being celebrated with great pomp in the country. Even in the harsh cold, devotees are taking bath in the holy rivers of the country. During this time, there are long queues for darshan in temples also. In Hindu beliefs, today there is a trend of eating khichdi along with bathing in holy rivers across the country. Charity is also considered to have special importance on this day.

Devotees bathing in rivers

From Varanasi to Ganga Sagar, devotees are taking bath in the rivers from four in the morning, ignoring the harsh cold. It is extremely cold in North India but the devotees do not care about it for today’s holy bath. A video of the holy Ganga river of Haridwar has also surfaced, in which devotees are seen taking bath in the harsh cold.

UP CM performed puja

UP CM and Mahant of Gorakhnath Math Yogi Adityanath has performed early morning puja on the occasion of Sankranti. Yogi Adityanath has greeted everyone on this occasion. Today’s date is being celebrated as Makar Sankranti in North India, while Pongal is being celebrated in South India. Bihu festival is being celebrated in Assam today. Today this folk festival is celebrated in some form or the other in every part of the country. From today the Sun enters Uttarayan. Along with this, auspicious works also begin.
