Morarji left government job and jumped into the fight for freedom

Morarji Desai was born on 29 February 1895 in Bhadaili (Bombay Presidency). In the year 1917, he was selected in the Bombay Provincial Civil Service. In 1927-28, riots took place in Godhra during his posting as Deputy Commissioner. After this, angry Morarji Desai resigned from his post. In fact, he was accused of favoritism. After this Morarji jumped into the fight for freedom. During this period he had to get burnt many times. After independence, he became the Chief Minister of Bombay in 1952.

Morarji Desai joined Congress

After this, he remained in Congress from 1956 to 1969 and held different posts in the state and central government and also handled the responsibilities of many important ministries. After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru, he was a contender for the post of Prime Minister. However, he did not get success during this period. After this Lal Bahadur Shastri was made the Prime Minister. When Lal Bahadur Shastri died, Morarji Desai once again became a contender for the post of Prime Minister. But during this time Indira Gandhi won.

He remained present in Indira Gandhi’s cabinet as a Cabinet Minister in the Central Government till 1969 and as Deputy Prime Minister in the last two years. In the year 1969, disputes started increasing in Congress and Congress got divided into two factions. After this Morarji Desai (O) joined the party and remained in the opposition for many years. After this he fought politically for the next 8 years. However, during this time, Emergency was imposed in the country and Morarji Desai again had to stay in jail for 19 months.

Morarji Desai became Prime Minister

When Morarji Desai and Chandrashekhar were in Congress, there were definitely ideological differences between the two. After the split of Congress in 1969, both of them fell into opposing camps. As the main contender for the post of Prime Minister, he was considered the most popular face, but every time someone else became the Prime Minister. But this did not happen in the year 1977. In the year 1977, Janata Party won the Lok Sabha elections and then Morarji Desai was made the Prime Minister. During this time Morarji Desai was challenged by Jagjivan Ram and Chaudhary Charan Singh. Let us tell you that Morarji Desai’s image was as a stubborn and stubborn leader. In such a situation, during the elections it seemed that Jagjivan Ram could become the Prime Minister. But at this time Morarji was supported by his colleague Chaudhary Charan Singh. The important thing is that while being in Morarji’s government, Chaudhary Charan Singh never got along with him.
