Today on Monday, the Election Commission has ordered the removal of Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar from his post. Home Secretaries of these states will also step down

Apart from West Bengal DGP Kumar, the commission has also ordered the removal of home secretaries of Gujarat, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, along with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, additional commissioners and deputy commissioners. Have ordered. Apart from this, the list of those removed also includes secretaries of general administrative departments in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh. This order of the Election Commission has come a few days after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates.

Who is West Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar?

Rajiv Kumar, considered close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is a 1989 batch IPS officer. Rajeev Kumar was made the DGP of the state after the retirement of Manoj Malviya in December 2023. Earlier, Rajeev has served as Chief Kolkata Police and Chief Bidhannagar Police. Apart from this, he has also headed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Task Force (STF) and served as the Principal Secretary, Department of Information Technology and Electronics.

Mamta Banerjee was sitting on strike

In 2019, the CBI had accused Rajiv Kumar of allegedly suppressing and destroying evidence while leading the SIT formed by the state government to investigate the Saradha scam case. Mamata Banerjee also sat on a 2-day dharna in February 2019 following the CBI chargesheet and search of Kumar’s house over the scam. Later, Mamata ended her protest after the Supreme Court gave her protection from arrest by the central agency.
