Woman buying dry fruits online cheated, stole more than Rs 3 lakh from bank account, case registered

Thane: A shocking case has come to light from Maharashtra. Here, a fraud of more than Rs 3 lakh has come to light with a woman buying dry fruits online. Police has given this information.

What is the whole matter?

A case of fraud of more than Rs 3 lakh has come to light from a 54-year-old woman in Panvel, Maharashtra, while purchasing dry fruits online. Police gave this information on Wednesday. Police said that according to the woman’s complaint, she saw an advertisement of a dry fruits shop on Facebook on September 20 and ordered some dry fruits.

When the woman contacted the phone number given in the advertisement, the person on the other end told her how to make the payment through the UPI-based app, police said quoting the complaint. When the woman followed the instructions, she was told by the other end that the transaction had failed, but later she learned that Rs 3,09,337 had been withdrawn from her bank account.

The woman told the police that she again tried to contact the man on phone but was unsuccessful. A case of fraud under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act was registered at Panvel police station on Tuesday and investigation is underway, police said.
