These days there is a flood of tips on Instagram and Facebook. Everyone is giving different kinds of advice to people. The benefits of applying garlic on the face are also being told in the viral reel. Is rubbing raw garlic cloves on the face really beneficial? Know from a skin expert what are the benefits and disadvantages of applying garlic on the face?

Garlic has been used as food in the kitchen for centuries. Garlic is used as a natural treatment for many diseases. Garlic contains an element called allicin which works as an antibacterial. It fights bacteria and reduces inflammation. In the viral video, it is being said that the use of garlic is a good option for treating acne. But acne is not only caused by germs, but there can be many other reasons for it. Sometimes acne starts due to blocked pores and sometimes due to excessive oily skin. Garlic is an effective remedy for treating acne, but there is no scientific reason for this.

Does applying garlic on the face cure acne?

Even though garlic is beneficial, applying it directly to your skin can have serious side effects. Garlic is very pungent. Applying it to the skin can cause skin irritation. Rubbing this hot spice on the skin can also cause redness and irritation. If you are allergic to garlic, rashes, swelling or any other problem can also occur. Garlic contains sulfur, which can cause the skin to peel when it becomes dry.

Benefits and disadvantages of rubbing garlic on the face

When we talked to Dr Madhu Chopra, MBBS, DORL, Cosmetologist, Managing Director of Studio Aesthetic, Mumbai, she said that garlic is a very beneficial vegetable, but no research or study has been done yet on whether garlic can be used as a treatment for acne. Rather, applying garlic on the skin also increases the possibility of allergies and inflammation.

In such a situation, if you are suffering from acne, then instead of adopting any such viral remedy, it would be better to consult a skin specialist. Sometimes doing such home remedies can have adverse effects on the skin. It is not necessary that everything suits everyone. Therefore, avoid using anything on the skin without consulting a doctor.
