On the occasion of Holi, invitations are sent from Ladli Mandir of Barsana to Nandgaon Phag. After this, a Phag from Nandgaon accepts the invitation and reaches Ladliji’s temple with a message. After accepting the invitation, Laddus are fed and on this day, Laddus Holi is played here.

Lord Krishna and Radha used to play Holi

It is believed that Lord Krishna along with his friends used to come to Radha Rani’s village i.e. Barsana to play Holi. The cowherds of Glave of Gandgaon and Barsana used to play Holi. Since then this tradition of playing Holi has been going on here. When the Gopas used to tease the Gopikas in love, they used to chase them away by hitting them with sticks. To keep this belief alive, Lathmar Holi is played here every year.

This time Lathmar Holi will be played on 19th March. First, Lathmar Holi is played in Barsana, then Holi is played in Nandgaon and lastly, Phulwari Holi is played in Vrindavan on the day of Rangbhari Ekadashi. However, Holi festival is celebrated for full 40 days in Braj. Devotees play Holi with Nandlala in different temples.
