Indian captain Rohit Sharma wants players who have not made it to the national team to make themselves available for domestic cricket, provided the BCCI medical team has not declared them unfit. Giving a strong message to players who give priority to one format over another, BCCI had advised all contract cricketers to give priority to domestic cricket. At the same time, players Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, who were included in the 2023 World Cup team, were dropped from the central contract pool for ignoring the board’s instructions to play Ranji Trophy.

Rohit said that discussions about this have been going on for a long time. When players are available they will have to make themselves available to play domestic cricket until they receive a certificate from the medical team that they require rest or they will not participate in domestic cricket. He further said that it is not just for some cricketers, it is for everyone to make sure that whenever you are available, and well, you play domestic cricket.
