bangladesh vs new zealand match

A three-match ODI series was played between New Zealand and Bangladesh. The Kiwi team won this series 2-1. However, in the last match of the series, Bangladesh created history and defeated New Zealand for the first time in an ODI match in New Zealand on Saturday, 23 December. The fast bowling pair of Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Shoriful Islam had the biggest contribution in Bangladesh’s victory. These two bowlers did not allow any batsman of the Kiwi team to stay on the crease and kept taking wickets one after the other.

How was the match?

Bangla Tigers, who had already lost the series, entered the field in this match with the intention of saving their pride. Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto tossed the coin and won the toss and invited the host team to bat. This decision of the captain proved beneficial for Bangladesh. Both Tanzeem Hasan Shakib and Shoriful Islam started giving shocks to New Zealand one after the other right from the beginning with the ball. In-form batsmen, Will Young (26 runs from 43 balls) and captain Tom Latham (21 runs from 34 balls) once again tried to show their magic with the bat, but it could not happen and they were dismissed by Shorifull. .

Apart from Young and Latham, only Josh Clarkson (16 runs) and Aditya Ashok (10 runs) could reach double figures and New Zealand’s innings ended at just 98 runs in the 32nd over. Soumya Sarkar played a key role in clean bowling the Kiwis, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in six overs and was the third Bangladesh bowler to take three wickets in the match.

Run chasing was quite easy

Chasing just 99 runs to win the match and end their 18-match ODI losing streak against the Kiwis in New Zealand, Bangladesh openers Sarkar and Anamul Haq Bijoy walked out to bat. Soumya, who came into this match with a tremendous century in the last match, had to retire hurt due to some problem in his right eye. With 15 runs on the board, Anamul got the support of his captain Nazmul and the duo added 69 runs for the second wicket to dash New Zealand’s hopes of getting back into the match. Although Anamul was out on a personal score of 37, the Bangladesh captain achieved the target by scoring the winning run in the 16th over.
