Board announced selection committee, this player became chief selector

The ICC had dismissed the Sri Lanka Cricket Board some time ago, but had also given instructions to continue cricket. Now the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced the new Chief Selector for the next two years. Five members including the Chief Selector have got a chance in the selection committee. The first official task of the committee will be to select the national team for the series against Zimbabwe in the year 2024. Let us know about it.

Upul Tharanga becomes Chief Selector

Uputhal Tharanga has been made the chairman of the selection committee. Dilruwan Perera, Tharanga Paranavithana, Ajantha Mendis and Indika De Seram have also got a place in the selection committee. Sports Minister Harin Fernando has appointed all of them by Sri Lanka Cricket. All these appointments come into effect with immediate effect. The tenure of the selection committee will be two years.

Played all three formats for Sri Lanka

Upul Tharanga has played cricket in all three formats for Sri Lanka. He has scored 1754 runs in 31 Tests, 6951 runs in 235 ODI matches and 407 runs in 26 T20 matches for Sri Lanka. He took retirement from international cricket in the year 2021. He has experience, which can be useful to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. The other member of the selection committee, Ajanta Mendis, was known for his magical spin bowling. He has played 19 Tests, 87 ODIs and 39 T20 matches for Sri Lanka.
