In the year 2023, the one defeat which will sting the Indian cricket fans for a long time is the defeat against Australia in the final match of the ODI World Cup on 19 November. India had made its place in the finals unbeaten by showing excellent performance throughout the tournament, but they could not defeat the Australian team in the title match. This defeat cannot be explained
While talking to journalists in Moradabad, Mohammed Shami said about the defeat in the World Cup final match that the whole country along with all the fans regret the defeat in that match. We were trying our best in the tournament to maintain the rhythm that we had from the beginning till the last match. But it hurts because you can’t explain where exactly we made a mistake at the end or where we had a bad day. Or what have we done that we have to suffer such a huge loss?
Out of South Africa tour due to knee injury
Mohammed Shami did not get a chance to play in the first few matches of the ODI World Cup, but by joining the playing 11 in the match against New Zealand, Shami had completely confirmed his place. He then took 24 wickets at an average of 10.71 in a total of 7 matches in the tournament, with his best performance being 7 wickets for 57 runs which came in the semi-final match. Whereas Shami could not be a part of the team in the 2-match Test series being played between India and South Africa due to a knee injury.
