IPL 2024 is just a few days away from now. BCCI released the schedule of the tournament on Thursday. However, only the schedule for the first 17 days of the tournament has been released. Actually, Delhi team has to play a total of four matches in the first phase of IPL. There are two home matches in these matches, but Delhi Capitals will not play these home matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. They will play both home matches in Visakhapatnam.
Why is Delhi Capitals playing home match in Visakhapatnam?
The schedule of Delhi Capitals has raised questions in the minds of fans as to why they are not playing their home matches in Delhi. In fact, before the IPL, Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Due to which there is a possibility that the pitch there may get completely spoiled after all these matches. In such a situation, the option of scheduling matches in Delhi was not chosen. The second part of the WPL including the Liminator and the final is scheduled to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. WPL matches will be played in Delhi from 5 to 17 March. After 11 consecutive matches on the ground, both the BCCI and the franchise were concerned about the condition of the ground, which is why BCCI took this decision.
According to the report of Cricbuzz, a BCCI official said regarding this issue that we felt that it is necessary to give some relief to the grounds after the WPL matches. Multiple sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that Delhi Capitals can play their remaining five league matches at their scheduled home ground at a later date. In such a situation, when the schedule will be released for the second phase, perhaps Delhi’s name will be included in it.
Home matches will be played against these two teams in the first phase
The decision to play in Visakhapatnam was the franchise’s decision and was confirmed by the BCCI. Releasing the schedule, BCCI said that deciding to play their first two home matches in Visakhapatnam, Delhi Capitals will first host Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, March 31 and then face Kolkata Knight Riders at the same venue on Wednesday, April 3.
