Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season started from January 5. Many brilliant performances were seen in the first day’s play, in which Rahul Singh Gehlot, playing for the Hyderabad team, scored the second fastest century in Ranji history. Rinku Singh, playing for Uttar Pradesh, also played a brilliant inning of 71 runs in the match against Kerala. Apart from this, Mumbai had lost 9 wickets till the score of 235 on the very first day of its match against Bihar.

Hyderabad team showed aggressive style

In the first day’s play, the Hyderabad team played in a very aggressive manner under the captaincy of Tilak Verma. In the match against Nagaland, Hyderabad declared its innings by scoring 474 runs in 76.4 overs in the first day’s play itself. In this, while Rahul Gehlot played an inning of 214 runs in just 157 balls, Tilak Verma also managed to score a century. After this, when the first day’s play ended, Nagaland team had lost 1 wicket after scoring 35 runs. Talking about the match being played between Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, the UP team had scored 244 runs on the first day with the loss of 5 wickets in 64 overs of play. While Rinku Singh was unbeaten on 71 runs, Dhruv Jurel was unbeaten on 54 runs.

The Gujarat team, batting first in the match against Tamil Nadu, had scored 188 runs after losing 6 wickets in 56 overs in the first day’s play. Whereas Chandigarh team failed by scoring only 96 runs in the match against Railways. Yuvraj Singh, playing for Railways, achieved the feat of taking 5 wickets while giving only 10 runs.

Mumbai lost 9 wickets, Jharkhand was limited to only 142 runs.

Mumbai started this Ranji season with a match against Bihar, in which when the first day’s play ended, Mumbai had lost 9 wickets till the score of 235 runs. Apart from Bhupen Lalwani’s 65 runs, Mumbai also saw innings of 50-50 runs with the bat of Suved Parkar and Tanush Kotian. Whereas Veer Pratap Singh from Bihar team performed brilliantly in bowling and took 4 wickets. Apart from this, Jharkhand cricket team was reduced to only 142 runs against Saurashtra, in which Chirag Jani took 5 wickets for 22 runs.

On the strength of Shridam Paul’s century, Tripura team had scored 261 runs at the loss of 4 wickets at the end of the first day’s play against Goa. Whereas Bengal finished in a very strong position at the end of the first day’s play in the match against Andhra Pradesh. The team had scored 289 runs at the loss of 4 wickets, in which a brilliant inning of 125 runs was seen from the bat of Anustup Majumdar.
