Vijay Hazare Trophy: Haryana cricket team’s memorable performance continues in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and for the first time in history they have made it to the finals. Haryana, who had last made it to the semi-finals of the domestic one-day competition 13 seasons ago in 2010–11, finally defeated Tamil Nadu by 63 runs in the semi-finals on Wednesday, December 13. Haryana have won all nine games so far in the competition in Rajkot and are now just one step away from lifting the trophy.

How was the condition of the semi-final match?

Talking about the semi-final match, the start was not good for Haryana. In this match, Haryana captain Ashok Menaria won the toss and decided to bat first. Where Haryana lost its first wicket for just 14 runs, but then Ashok Menaria and Himanshu Rana took up the responsibility of handling their team’s innings.

Rana made a partnership of 132 runs with opener Yuvraj Singh. They took advantage of Tamil Nadu’s poor bowling. Yuvraj was out on 65 runs but Rana continued his innings and scored a brilliant century. Lower down the order, Sumit Kumar scored 48 runs in 30 balls and despite the middle order failure, Haryana posted a strong total of 293 runs, with Himanshu scoring 116 runs.

Tamil Nadu team could not chase

Tamil Nadu did not have a good start in batting and by the 21st over, four wickets had fallen. Jagadeesan and Vijay Shankar started but Haryana bowlers Sumit, Kamboj and Nishant Sindhu did not let them survive at all. Despite getting stitches after being hit on the lips by the ball, Baba Inderjit gave some hope to his team by playing an inning of 65 runs, in which captain Dinesh Karthik gave good support.

But the target was not easy to achieve for the five-time champions. The team was finally bowled out for 230 runs and they lost. Kamboj took four wickets, while Rahul Tewatia, Harshal Patel, Sindhu and Sumit took four wickets each. Yuzvendra Chahal, who is now in South Africa for the ODIs, will be excited to see his team reach the final. Haryana will now wait for the winner of the second semi-final to be held between Rajasthan and Karnataka to know who they will face in the final on Saturday 16th December.
