Suresh Raina termed it a wise decision to include experienced Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the team for the T20 series against Afghanistan in view of the World Cup. Raina said that his presence will strengthen the team. While talking to Jio Cinema and Sports18, Raina said that if you look at the stadiums in America and West Indies during the World Cup, the wickets will be a bit tricky. India will need the experience of Rohit and Kohli there. Kohli is close to scoring 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. Therefore, with their presence, India’s batting will be stronger and India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup will definitely improve.
At which number should Virat bat?
In Raina’s opinion, Kohli should be made to bat at number three and the responsibility of opening the innings should be on Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal. He said that I think Kohli should bat at number three. His experience will provide strength, especially on the challenging pitches of America and West Indies. The team has young and bold cricketers like Jaiswal, Rinku Singh or Shubman Gill but Rohit and Kohli will strengthen the batting unit.
Raina called this player as X factor
Raina described Sanju Samson as his first choice for wicket-keeper batsman and termed him the X factor. Raina said that Sanju recently scored a brilliant century against South Africa. He definitely has captaincy qualities because whenever he is on the field he is always thinking. We have very good options in the role of wicketkeeper batsman in the form of KL Rahul, Jitesh Sharma, Ishan Kishan and after being fit, Pant. Raina expressed hope that Samson would perform well against Afghanistan and in the Indian Premier League 2024. He said that I would like to see Sanju in the middle order because he has a lot of shots. I hope he performs well in the IPL before the selectors choose the team for the T20 World Cup. There is a good chance for Sanju against Afghanistan and he can be our X factor in the World Cup.
