The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) included a total of 30 players in different categories in the Players Central Contract List released for the year 2023-24. While 7 players included in the last contract have not got a place in any grade this time, 11 new players have been included in the contract this time. BCCI did not include the names of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in the new annual contract, due to which the reaction of many former players is being seen. Meanwhile, World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev praised the board’s decision and said that it is a necessary step to save first-class tournaments like Ranji Trophy.
BCCI took absolutely right decision
Regarding the new annual central contract issued by the Indian Cricket Board, Kapil Dev said that yes, it will cause trouble to some players and trouble to some people, but no one is greater than the country. This decision of the board is absolutely right. I congratulate BCCI for taking necessary steps keeping domestic cricket in mind. I feel very sad to see that if a player proves himself completely in international cricket, then he does not give that much importance to domestic cricket and stops playing there. The board should have given this message to all the players long ago.
International players should play domestic cricket
World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev further said in his statement that I have always believed that players who impress everyone with their play in international cricket should play for their state in domestic cricket whenever they get time. Because this gives a lot of support to the domestic players also. Along with releasing the annual Players Central Contract List, BCCI has also decided to increase the pension of former players. Kapil Dev also expressed his gratitude to the Board for this decision. He said that I am happy that BCCI has increased the pension amount of the players which will be beneficial for those whose families are dependent on pension.
