According to a PTI report, Suryakumar will miss the Afghanistan T20I in January and is also unlikely to be selected for the home Test series against England in the summer. Meanwhile, the same report also states that vice-captain Hardik Pandya’s playing in the Afghanistan series remains doubtful. Earlier media reports had suggested a possible return of the injured all-rounder during the Afghanistan T20I, but the chances of the new Mumbai Indians captain returning ahead of IPL 2024 now appear slim.
“There is no update on Hardik’s fitness status yet and there remains a big question mark over his availability before the end of the IPL,” the source said. Team India will play two Test matches against South Africa from December 26 and then a three-match T20 series against Afghanistan at home from January 11. In such a situation, the selection of the T20 team is expected to be interesting in the absence of these two star players.
