The United States and 12 allied countries warned Houthi rebels on Wednesday to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea or be prepared to face possible military action. A senior US official in President Joe Biden’s administration declined to elaborate on the terms of possible engagement if attacks continue, but stressed that the Iran-backed Houthis are facing “another threat” from the US and its allies. No warning should be expected. A White House official gave this information on condition of anonymity shortly after the allies issued a joint statement on Wednesday condemning the attacks.

The countries also said, “Now our message should be clear. We call for an immediate end to these attacks and the release of the unlawfully detained ships and crew.” If you continue to put others in danger, you will be responsible for the consequences.
