Fishermen’s boat capsizes near Sulawesi island in Indonesia, 2 dead and 24 missing – India TV Hindi

Jakarta: Information about a major boat accident is coming to light in Indonesia. It is being told that a fishing boat got hit by sea waves near Sulawesi island in Indonesia. She got shaken and overturned in the sea. There were 37 people on this boat. As soon as the boat capsized in the sea, there was hue and cry. Rescue workers said that at least two people died in this accident. While 24 other people are missing. Other people have been rescued. There is a fear that the death toll will increase. The search for missing people continues.

Indonesia’s national search and rescue agency said in a statement that the boat, known as ‘Dewi Jaya 2’, was heading from a port in Jakarta carrying tonnes of fish to the island of Lombok, near Bali, but was struck by stormy weather just after midnight on Saturday. Due to which high waves started rising in the sea and due to its impact, the boat filled with 37 passengers overturned. The boat capsized in the Gulf of Bone, about 52 nautical miles from Benteng port in Selayar island in South Sulawesi province, the statement said.

Rescue workers rescued 11 people safely

On Sunday, local fishermen informed the team of rescue workers about this incident. As soon as the information was received, rescue workers reached the spot, where they safely rescued 11 people including the captain. All of them were stranded at different places in Selayar. Rescue workers have also recovered bodies of two people from the spot. The agency said that 11 people who were safely evacuated from there have been admitted to nearby health centers and their condition is stable. Meanwhile, rescue workers are searching for 24 missing people. There have been several maritime accidents in Indonesia in recent years, in which hundreds of people have lost their lives. Such accidents often occur due to overcrowding in boats and not following safety rules properly. (AP)
