After talks with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Thursday, PM Modi said that India-Qatar relations are continuously strengthening. Release of Indian soldiers gave new status to friendship

The former navy personnel were sentenced to death by a Qatari court on October 26. The Gulf country’s appeals court had commuted the death sentence on December 28 and sentenced the former navy personnel to prison terms varying from three years to 25 years. In December last year, Prime Minister Modi had met Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the sidelines of the ‘COP 28’ summit in Dubai and discussed the welfare of the Indian community in Qatar. Trade and energy relations between India and Qatar are growing. Qatar is the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India, accounting for over 48 percent of India’s global LNG imports.
