Gift to people of Indian origin living in Mauritius, big announcement regarding OCI card – India TV Hindi

Gift to the people of Indian origin living in Mauritius.

New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu on March 11 said he has approved a special provision to grant Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards to 7th generation persons of Indian origin in Mauritius. Speaking at the National Day celebrations of Mauritius in the capital Port Louis, President Draupadi Murmu said that “In the context of the ‘Khoon Ka Rishta’ that I mentioned earlier, I am very happy to inform you all that my Government has recently approved a proposal. Under this special provision, 7th generation people of Indian origin residing in Mauritius will also be eligible for Overseas Citizen of India Card (OCI Card).” He said that “This will enable many young Mauritians of Indian origin to become overseas citizens of India and reconnect with the land of their ancestors.”

India’s support to Mauritius

Along with this, President Murmu also highlighted India’s support to Mauritius through various development projects. He said the enduring ties between the two countries reflect solidarity in both prosperous and challenging times. He said the metro project, the new EMT hospital, the new Supreme Court building, the new solar power plant and many other India-assisted development projects are all visible symbols of India’s commitment to supporting the welfare of Mauritius. The participation of a large Mauritian delegation in the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held in Indore in January and Mauritius’s participation during our G20 presidency are proof of this.”

Mentioned about UPI and Rupay card

President Murmu also highlighted the recent initiatives launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mauritius. In this he also mentioned about the introduction of UPI and RuPay card settlement system. Other notable projects include the inauguration of a new airstrip, inauguration of a jetty and 6 community development projects in Agalega. Also announced was an initiative to supply affordable high-end genetic medicines to Mauritius.

The President is on a three-day state visit

President Draupadi Murmu held a one-on-one meeting with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on March 11 to discuss ways to further strengthen India-Mauritius bilateral relations. Let us tell you that he is on a three-day state visit to Mauritius. He was welcomed with full respect at the airport. Along with this, as a special gesture, President Murmu presented a RuPay card to the Prime Minister of Mauritius. RuPay card services were launched in Mauritius on February 12 this year.
