Floods and rains have caused havoc in the African country Congo. People’s homes, houses, shops and institutions have become victims of floods and rains. So far, 22 people have died in this horrific disaster, while the search for more than 400 missing people is going on. Giving this information on Tuesday, a local official said that at least 22 people died in floods caused by heavy rains in the African country Congo. John Kabeya, governor of Kasai Central province, said that hours of rain in Kananga district destroyed many houses and construction sites.

He informed that a search operation is being conducted in the area. He said that initially 17 deaths were reported and the deaths of five more people were confirmed on Tuesday. “Ten people died when the wall collapsed, all members of the same family in Bikuku,” Kabeya said. Heavy rains often cause flood-like situations in some parts of Congo. Earlier in May, torrential rains overnight caused floods and landslides in eastern Congo’s South Kivu province, killing more than 400 people.

Important roads damaged, traffic disrupted

The situation of severe floods and rains is such that important roads have been destroyed. Railway tracks and bus stations are flooded. Due to this the traffic has been disrupted. Kabeya said an institute of technology, a church and a major road were damaged due to the recent floods. He said that immediate action would be requested from the government. Heavy rains triggered landslides in eastern Congo late Sunday night, killing at least four people and leaving about 20 missing. Earlier, more than 400 people were reported missing. (AP)
