Newark: An Imam was shot dead outside a mosque in New Jersey, USA on Wednesday. The search is on for the attackers who carried out this heinous massacre that took place around 6 am. Giving information about the incident, officials said that Imam was shot in his car. He said that the badly injured Imam was immediately taken to the hospital but he could not be saved. Officials say that the reason for the murder of the Imam has not been revealed yet.
‘The attacker is being searched’
Officials said that no evidence has been found so far that the firing incident was inspired by anti-Muslim ideology. He said that investigation in the matter is going on and the attacker is being searched. Imam Hassan Sharif was in his car around 6 a.m. when he was attacked and shot multiple times, Essex County Prosecutor Ted Stephens said at a press conference. He said Sharif was taken to a nearby hospital, but he died in the afternoon.
‘Fear has spread among many people in New Jersey’
Attorney General Matt Platkin said, ‘I know that the news of this murder has spread fear and distress to many people in New Jersey at this time.’ Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said that Sharif had been the local imam at the local mosque for five years. He remembered the imam as a leader of the interfaith community who worked hard to establish a safe environment in New Jersey. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said, ‘Although it is not known why the imam was shot, as a precaution I am increasing patrols for the safety of the Muslim community.’ (Language)
