The party of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday moved the Supreme Court against a decision of the Lahore High Court regarding its election symbol. The High Court had reinstated the Election Commission of Pakistan order which had declared the party’s organizational election invalid and canceled its election symbol ‘cricket bat’. The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday had reinstated the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) order, following which the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party had moved the Lahore High Court. However, on Thursday the Lahore High Court rejected the party’s plea.
Hearing will be held in Supreme Court on Friday
According to the news of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, the party’s petition will be heard in the Supreme Court on Friday. In the petition filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday by Imran’s party, it has been argued that the PHC had given its decision after hearing the arguments of the Commission and this was reflected in the court’s order of December 26, hence the court’s decision on Wednesday. “Not sustainable”.
Election symbol was canceled on 22 December
According to the news, the petition has termed the PHC’s Wednesday order as “extremely harsh, unreasonable and unsustainable”. It is noteworthy that on December 22, the Election Commission of Pakistan had rejected the organizational election of Imran’s party and also canceled the party’s election symbol cricket bat. In the elections held in December, Barrister Gauhar Khan was elected the new president of the party.
