The 5th edition of joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ between the Indian Army and Japan Ground Self Defense Force began today at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. This program, which started from 25th February, will continue till 9th ​​March. Exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ is an annual military exercise and is conducted alternately in India and Japan. The contingent of both the countries includes 40-40 soldiers. The Japanese contingent is being represented by soldiers of the 34th Infantry Regiment and the Indian Army contingent is being represented by a battalion of the Rajputana Rifles.
What is the purpose of practice?
The objective of the exercise is to promote military cooperation and enhance joint capabilities to conduct joint operations in semi-urban conditions under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will focus on high level physical fitness, joint planning, joint tactical exercises and special weapons skills.
What will happen in this exercise?
Tactical exercises to be carried out during the exercise included setting up of temporary operating bases, creating an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) grid, setting up mobile vehicle check posts, conducting cordon and search operations in an adversary and enemy area, heliborne operations and Will include house intervention drills. Weapons and equipment showcasing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and the country’s growing defense industrial capability will be showcased.
Top military officers of Japan will come on March 3
On the occasion of ‘Exercise Dharma Guardian’, Lieutenant General Togashi Yuichi, Commanding General, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, Eastern Army will also visit India. The General Officer will visit Mahajan Field Firing Range on 3 March 2024 and witness Combat Shooting Demonstration, Special Heliborne Operation (SHBO) and House Intervention Drill.
