India is furious over the vandalism of Hindu temples in America and the writing of Khalistani slogans on their sacred walls. The Indian Foreign Ministry has condemned this incident and registered its protest. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday expressed concern over the incident of anti-India slogans being written on the walls of a US-based temple and the incident of vandalism, saying that extremists and separatist forces should not get a place outside India. The External Affairs Minister was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the third convocation of the National Defense University here.
To a question about the incident, Jaishankar said, “I have seen the news. As you know, we are concerned about this. Extremists and separatist forces should not get a place outside India. Our Consulate has filed a complaint with the (US) government and the police there regarding what happened and I am sure the matter is being investigated.” The police department in Newark, California said. Around 8.35 am on Friday morning, he received information about slogans written in Shri Swaminarayan Temple (Hindu temple). According to pictures posted on social media, the word Khalistan along with other objectionable slogans were spray-painted on a ‘signpost’ outside the temple.

The NYPD said any acts or threats of violence, property damage, harassment, hate or other crimes motivated by bias are considered very serious and given high priority. The Consulate General of India in San Francisco strongly condemned the defacement of the temple. Regarding the arrest of Nikhil Gupta in the Czech Republic, Jaishankar said that the Indian Embassy was granted consular access to him (by the government of that country). Gupta is accused of conspiring with an Indian official to murder US-based pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. (Language)
